Working under the direction of the Pastoral Council, the Stewardship
Committee conducts the annual stewardship drive and the development of
stewardship awareness throughout the year. Listed below are stewardship
activities related to WORSHIP AND SPIRITUAL LIFE. If you are interested
in learning more about any of these ministries, please contact the Parish
Office,777-4221.
Adoration
St. Michael's holds Perpetual Adoration - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - in
its Adoration Chapel. If you would like to commit to taking a one-hour
prayer shift per week, please
contact Frank and Janice Baca, 777-0961. Eucharistic Adoration is also held
every Friday in the chapel at Villa Maria (633 E. Main Street). On the First
Friday of each month, St.
Michael's hosts a Night Vigil from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. It consists of song,
prayer, and reflection. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is also available
during the vigil.
Church Decorating
Volunteers assist in preparing the church environment for the various
liturgical seasons, including floral arrangements, banners, etc.
Eucharistic Ministers
Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest in the distribution of Holy
Communion during Mass and also to the sick and elderly during the week.
Eucharistic Ministers are chosen by the
pastor. Training is required and recertification is necessary every 5 years.
Greeters/Gift Bearers
The Greeters meet and welcome fellow parishioners and visitors as they enter
the church. They also distribute bulletins after Mass. Gift bearers are
regularly scheduled to bring
forward the gifts at Offertory time.
Lectors
The prayerful proclamation of Sacred Scripture is fundamental to quality
liturgy in our parish. To serve as a lector, one must be able to read with
clarity, sincerity and conviction.
All lectors should study the Sunday Scriptures and be prepared to read at
every Mass they attend, regardless of whether they are scheduled.
Mass Servers
Young men and women assist the priest before, during and after Mass. This
ministry is available for those in grades 5 and up (through high school).
Music Ministry
This ministry includes the cantors, adult choir, organists and pianists, and
other instrumentalists. Music Ministry, under the direction of John Torline,
is involved in
determining the musical setting for each Mass, scheduling cantors and other
musicians and arranging for the choir to sing at selected Masses.
Rosary Leaders
Rosary Leaders are responsible for leading the congregation in praying the
Rosary 20 minutes before Mass begins each Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Sacristans
The sacristans assist the priest by making sure that the altar and vessels
are properly placed before Mass and put away immediately following Mass.
Ushers
Ushers are responsible for seating people at Mass, and taking up the
offertory collection. They may also be asked to help with various other
special tasks, such as making sure that
the sidewalk is clear in inclement weather, setting up additional chairs,
and opening the church doors before and after Mass. |
